Over the past 20 years, George has accumulated extensive experience in risk management and trading from across Cargill’s businesses. A qualified chartered accountant, George is a specialist in freight derivatives and structured finance.
After he graduated from St. Catherine’s College, Oxford, George started his career with Ernst & Young. In 1997, he joined Cargill to work with the company’s structured finance group and later as a risk manager within Cargill’s ocean transportation business.
Between 2012 and 2017, George managed the dry freight derivatives desk. During this time, Cargill became one of the largest users of the freight derivatives market which provides an invaluable risk management tool to the business and its customers. George was appointed to the role of head of assets and structuring in June 2017.
He is responsible for vessel-owning joint ventures, multiple bareboat financing structures, and Cargill’s ‘green ship of the future’ project. He was a member of the Drafting Committee for the Poseidon Principles – a global framework for assessing and disclosing the climate alignment of financial institutions’ shipping portfolios - that were launched in June 2019 in conjunction with the Global Maritime Forum.
Dr. Şadan Kaptanoglu
Şadan Kaptanoglu is a shipowner and a shipyard owner. She is chief executive officer of Kaptanoglu Shipping. She completed her Phd in De Montfort University after she graduated from Cass Business School, MSC Shipping, Finance and Trade.
On 6 June 2017 at the BIMCO General Meeting in Rome Sadan was elected as President Designate of BIMCO thereby becoming the first woman to reach that position. Sadan Kaptanoglu is the chairperson of TURMEPA and vice president of INTERMEPA. She is vice chairperson of Turkish Chamber of Shipping as well. Sadan is the first winner of Seatrade young person of the year award in 2008. She is married and has two daughters.
Andy has over 30 years of experience in the transportation sector. Since 1988, Andy has been active in financial advisory activities for J.P. Morgan and its predecessor firms. Prior to his current role, Andy was Global Head of Shipping and Cruise investment banking for J.P. Morgan from 2003-2008.
From 2000-2003, Andy was a member of J.P. Morgan’s Transportation Group’s investment banking team focusing on airlines, shipping, automotive, container leasing, and logistics companies. Prior to these roles, Andy was Director of Transportation at Ceres S.A., a European merchant banking firm, and also worked in the Global Transportation Groups of Chemical Bank and Manufacturers Hanover Trust.
Andy earned a B.A. from Dartmouth College and graduated with a Masters in International Affairs from Columbia University. Andy is also a graduate of the Harriman Institute of Columbia University, a research institute for the study of Russia and Eastern Europe.
