Richard Meade

Richard Meade
Chair of first panel

Richard Meade is the Managing Editor of Lloyd’s List, the leading source of maritime business intelligence. He is also Managing Editor of Insurance Day, which covers the London and international insurance markets. He specialises in maritime commerce, trade and politics.

As the youngest ever editor of the oldest newspaper in the world, Richard spearheaded digital innovation, taking Lloyd’s List fully online in 2013 after nearly 300 years in print. He also manages industry titles including Insurance Day and Containerisation International.

Richard’s award-winning journalism covers maritime commerce, trade and politics. He also makes TV and radio appearances commenting on the shipping industry.

He joined Lloyd's List in 2006 after leaving maritime magazine Fairplay. He moved into a career in shipping analysis via a degree in psychology and a 2-year stint at the Financial Times Group.

 Cichen shen  

Cichen Shen
Chair of second panel

Based in Hong Kong, Cichen Shen is the China Editor for Lloyd’s List. He is responsible for covering a wide range of maritime issues, from the Cosco-China Shipping merger and the growth of Chinese lessors to the collapse of Hanjin and the integration between the Japanese carriers.

Cichen is a frequent interviewer of the top business leaders in Asian shipping.

Prior to his role at Lloyd’s List, Cichen worked as a reporter for China’s Caijing Magazine in Beijing and was a local producer for the US National Public Radio and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Shanghai.


Stephen Ashworth
Managing Director, Thailand & South East Asia
Hutchison Ports

Prior to his current position, Stephen was Managing Director – Myanmar, Thailand & Vietnam for Hutchison Ports between 2015 and 2016 and Chief Executive Officer of Hutchison Ports Indonesia between 2010 and 2014.

Stephen previously worked for the CK Hutchison Group between 1992 and 2001 in various finance and management positions.
Between 2002 and 2010, Stephen was Asia Pacific Chief Financial Officer for the Constituency Management Group (CMG), the marketing communications division of the US listed Interpublic Group. During his time with CMG, Stephen had overall responsibility for CMG’s finance function in the Asia Pacific region.

Stephen is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He holds a BA degree in Economics from the University of Leeds in the U.K.


Ojas Doshi
Deputy Chief Executive Officer
Rhodium Resources

Mr Doshi is a naturalised Singaporean who has lived in Singapore for over 40 years. Born in Mumbai, he is the 4th generation in a family of commodity traders. He brings with him over 20 years of working experience in the trading and maritime industry and holds a Master’s degree in Shipping, Trade & Finance from CASS Business School in London. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and International Relations from Warwick University.

Mr. Doshi has been with the Rhodium Resources group since inception and has held several portfolios within the group including Group Shipping Director and also the Group COO. Prior to Rhodium, he spent most of his career in commodity trading and shipping and has rich experience in trading across the globe in coal, rice, sugar, cashew nuts and steel. Apart from Singapore, Mr Doshi has lived and worked in Mumbai, Geneva, London and New York. He speaks 5 languages and his sporting interests include golf and tennis. He is married with 2 daughters.


Fergus Eley
Head of Maritime Enterprise
BHP Maritime & Supply Chain Excellence

As the Head of Maritime Enterprise at BHP Fergus leads the commercial and operational team managing the maritime supply chain for BHPs coal, copper and petroleum businesses. The portfolio spans vessel classes from capes, panamax, supramax and LNG/LPG carriers to boxship cargoes. Fergus joined BHP in 2014 in the West Australian Iron Ore business joining the Maritime team in Singapore in 2016 leading Strategy and Planning. Passionate about industrial innovation and technology adoption, Fergus led the freight eAuction (online reverse auction) project for BHP Freight and has driven the ongoing LNG-fuelled bulker project for BHP.


Richard Hiller
Global Head, Sales, Customer Service, Documentation

Rich Hiller has been involved with the containership industry since 1979 and has lived in Asia for 35 years. Previously the Chief Commercial Officer and Board Member of MOL Liner Ltd. he has held senior management positions with American President Lines and Mitsui OSK Lines in the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.

Mr. Hiller is now based in Singapore at ONE’s global headquarters where he serves as the company’s Global Head of Sales, Customer Service and Documentation. In this capacity Rich is responsible for worldwide Sales, Customer Service, Documentation and the company’s Global Key Accounts program.


Steven Lee

Mr. Steven Lee has been involved with the freight business in Singapore since 1974. Prior to his current position, Steven was the Deputy CEO South Asia Pacific for DHL Global Forwarding. During his time with DHL Global Forwarding, he had the overall responsibility for establishing contact with strategically important customers, government agencies, trade bodies and the general public in order to enhance business opportunities, brand awareness and image as the industry leader.

Mr. Steven Lee is also the current Chairman of The Singapore Aircargo Agents Association (SAAA@Singapore).


Ralph Leszczynski
Head of Research
Banchero Costa

Ralph Leszczynski is in charge of the research and consultancy department at banchero costa, the Italian shipbroking and shipping services group.

Born in Gdynia, Poland, he grew up in Italy and then in Britain. Following his A-Level studies in London, he graduated in Economics and Statistics from University College London, in the UK. He also holds a Masters degree in Financial Management from ESC Rouen, France.

In 2001, Ralph joined banchero costa's ship finance department in Genoa, Italy. There he offered clients advise on financial structures and solutions, whilst also working on shipping market analysis and forecasting. Since 2004 he helped develop the research activities of the group.

In 2008 he moved to banchero costa's Beijing office, so to be at the core of the increasingly important Asian market. In the 7 years he was based there, he traveled extensively throughout China and elsewhere in Asia, and occasionally tried to work on his Chinese language skills. Since May 2014 he is based in Singapore.

Ralph's work focuses primarily on dry bulk shipping, but he also follows closely the crude and product tankers markets, as well as LNG


Punit Oza

Mr. Oza is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) and is currently the Chairman of the Singapore chapter of ICS. He has over 26 years of experience in Dry Bulk Shipping. He is a graduate in Financial Management and Accounting from University of Mumbai and a post graduate in Shipping, Trade and Finance from CASS Business School, London. He also holds a LLB from University of London and is a visiting professor for “Private International Law” at ITC School of Laws, Singapore, which is affiliated to University of London.

Beginning his career with Precious Shipping, Bangkok, he has worked extensively in Thailand, Hong Kong, Dubai and Singapore with companies such as Noble Chartering, Astra Shipping and Aries Shipbroking. He has been with Torvald Klaveness since 2007.
He sits on the board of Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) and on the Maritime Industry Advisory Committee (MIAC) of Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA). He also sits on the Trade and Connectivity Sub-Committee of Future Economy Council (FEC) formed by Singapore Government. He is also a member of Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA), Singapore Institute of Directors (SID) and Maritime Law Association of Singapore (MLAS).

 Chris Palsson  

Christopher Pålsson

Christopher (Chris) Pålsson is the Head of Consulting and managing director of maritime-insight at Lloyd’s List Consulting. Chris has a wide experience ranging from practising business development to transport and logistics studies for manufacturing industries, governmental agencies, shipowners and business organisations. Chris has in different functions worked with shipping and industrial market analysis since the end of the 1980s. He has spoken at numerous high-level meetings and conferences through the years. Chris has been Chairman of the International Maritime Statistics Forum since 2012 and was chosen as shipping profile of the year by the Göta Älvklubben (Sweden) in 2015.

 Tom Rogers  

Tom Rogers

Tom is Associate Director in Oxford Economics’ Macro Consulting team, leading projects across a range of sectors for clients across the Asia-Pacific region.

Tom joined Oxford Economics in 2010 following nine years as an Economist and Economic Advisor in HM Treasury and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Since joining Oxford Economics, Tom has worked across a range of teams, including Cities and Regions Consultancy, our Eurozone Macroeconomic Forecast team, and since April 2015, in Macro Consulting. In February 2019 Tom relocated to our Singapore office to head our Macro Consulting work in the APAC region.

Tom has extensive experience in producing bespoke economic forecasts, models and scenarios across a range of sectors, including key infrastructure assets. Tom has managed projects producing bespoke traffic and activity forecasts for amongst others the Ports of Los Angeles/Long Beach, Port of New York/New Jersey, Stansted Airport, Jeddah Airport, and the Irish Department of Transportation. Tom graduated from Warwick University with BSc Economics and Politics, and took a career break from the Civil Service to complete MSc Economics at Southampton University.
