Dr Chris Buehler
Senior Managing Engineer at Exponent, Inc
Chris specialises in the application of chemical engineering principles to the scientific investigation and analyses of problems involving the production, processing, storage, and transport of oil, natural gas, and chemicals. The production and use of hydrogen, biogas, and other alternative sources of energy are also areas of interest. Chris actively participates on several technical committees, has chaired conference sessions on refining and LNG safety, and is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers Fuels and Petrochemicals Division executive committee. He earned a Ph.D. and master’s degrees from Purdue University and a bachelor’s degree from Villanova University – all in chemical engineering.
John Hatley is Americas VP Marine Solutions and Director Market Shaping for Wartsila North America. He has over 30 years of combined marine experience spanning business development, sales, project management of domestic and overseas vessel construction, owner's representation, advisor pension fund shipping investment, ship operations, and vessel design. John’s expertise resides in market development shaping activities for gas initiatives (LNG, LEG, LPG, Methane) plus hybrids with focus on financial business case metrics for decision making and environmental currency. Prior to joining Wartsila he held positions with General Electric, Marine Industries NW, Pension Fund Investment First American Bulk Carriers, US Lines, Trinidad Tankers, and John J. McMullen Naval Architects. He is a licensed Chief Engineer for Steam, Diesel, and Gas Turbines.
Business Development Manager, ABS
Giorgos Plevrakis is Business Development Manager at ABS, the classification, technical services, and lifecycle management company. He focuses specifically on helping the marine and offshore industries apply new and alternative sources of fuel. Giorgios is based in Athens, Greece. Prior to joining ABS, he worked in a number of roles spanning power generation manufacturing to classification services. Previous roles include serving as Business Development Manager for RINA and Head of Power Plants and Turbomachinery and Marine New Buildings Manager for MAN Diesel & Turbo covering Greece, Cyprus and the Balkan Region. Giorgios holds an MEng in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and an MBA from the Athens University of Economics and Business.
President, Chamber of Shipping of America
Kathy was appointed the President and CEO of the Chamber of Shipping of America (CSA) in June 2015. She previously served as CSA’s Director of Maritime Affairs from 1997 to 2015. Before she joined the Chamber, Kathy served as a deck officer on ocean-going tankers, marine safety and environmental director, corporate regulatory and compliance manager and state government affairs manager. She is a 1978 graduate of the US Merchant Marine Academy (BS in Marine Transportation and Nautical Sciences) and a 1988 graduate of the Delaware Law School (JD).
Joe Walsh, Partner
Collier Walsh Nakazawa
Joe Walsh is a Partner in law firm Collier Walsh Nakazawa LLP. His practice serves maritime, energy and environmental interests. He is best known for his exceptional experience in pollution matters, crisis response, casualty investigations and resulting litigation. Joe is currently providing regulatory advice and defending claims arising from California’s vessel emissions regulations. Joe is a 1983 Honors graduate of the US Merchant Marine Academy. He graduated cum laude from the University of Arizona College of Law in 1989. Joe retired from the U.S. Navy in 2009 at the rank of Captain following 26 years of active at sea and reserve tours.
Melissa Williams, Global Sales & Marketing Manager
Melissa is Shell’s Global Sales & Marketing manager for Marine Bunker Fuel. She is responsible for the International Marine Fuel business in Trading. She has played a key role in Shell preparing for IMO 2020 fuel specification change. Melissa has been with Shell for over 20 years where her experience spanned from rotating equipment support to hydrocarbon economic analysis. Prior to joining Shell/Motiva, she worked for Mc Neil Consumer Products Company (producer of Tylenol) and supported NASA’s International Space Station (ISS) as a flight controller.
